Ruth is an award-winning wine expert and former sommelier. Founder of Wine Car Boot, the London & UK Ambassador for Star Wine List and part of the TWS Creative team.

Wine Car Boot is London’s independent wine market - an alternative tasting and shopping experience that promotes independent wine shops, encouraging people to ‘Taste their way out of the Supermarket’. The event has been hugely popular with both the public and trade since launching in 2013. Over 80 of London and the UK’s shops and producers have taken part and over 2000 people attend each market.

Star Wine List is the online global guide to great places to drink wine, championing sommeliers and offering consumers unrivalled online access to the world's best lists. As well as compiling the directory she writes about and interviews the country’s most interesting wine people. 

TWS Creative is a production, brand and marketing house at the forefront of new wine media. Originally behind The Wine Show, they now work with an eclectic roster of international clients to deliver dynamic, creative and authentic campaigns, content, films and events.

For the last eight years Ruth has written (not curated) dozens of wine lists for London restaurants and since 2017 co-produced the Cellar Bar at Wilderness Festival.  

She judges at the Decanter World Wine Awards, appears on panel talks and demos (Harpers, Imbibe Live, London Wine Fair, Wilderness, Padstow Festival) and consults for creative agencies and wine marketing bodies. Working with a select group private and corporate clients, Ruth advises on all aspects of wine and produces bespoke tastings for anyone, anywhere, who’s thirsty.

As a writer bylines include Noble Rot, Foodism, Root & Vine, ES, Elle Wedding, INstyle, Peninsula Magazine, Town & Country, Esquire, GQ. 

Ruth's career in wine and hospitality kicked off working for Anthony Demetre and Will Smith (of Michelin-starred Arbutus and Wild Honey) who in the noughties pioneered a new style of 'bistronomy' in London, alongside a refreshingly democratic approach to wine (every bottle available by the glass). She went on to take WSET exams and find work across the wine industry with importers, distributers, marketing bodies and independent retailers.

Her first career was as a model, a decade in which she lived in Paris, New York and LA and worked all over the world, including a season in Japan, shooting for the likes of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and The Face, and featuring in campaigns for Banana Republic, Shiseido, YSL Makeup and Bon Marché. During fashion week she walked for Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Sonia Rykiel and shot with photographers including David Bailey, Vincent Peters, Lord Snowden, Nathanial Goldberg, Camilla Åkrans, Gilles Bensimon and Miles Aldridge. She has appeared in over 20 television commercials for global brands.

Based in the UK, Ruth lives between London and the country with her whippet, Zalto, drinking as far and wide as possible. Despite an interest in quite literally all types of wine, producers with at least one eye on the planet as well as the palate tend to get a tad more attention.

The aim? To get more people having a better time drinking better wine more of the time.
